Description

1934 Gibson Roy Smeck Stage Deluxe in very good condition. This Gibson has some professionally repaired top cracks, four smaller ones near the bottom of the bridge, and one longer one that runs from the bridge to the bottom edge of the guitar. Tom converted this Roy Smeck to Spanish style.  The process involved: neck reset, neck reshaping taking the nut width down from 2 1/8" to 1 13/16", adding a 1/2" aluminum square tube to stiffen the neck, filled and recut bridge for saddle compensation and fretting.  The neck finish is a spot on match of the original done using the same techniques as Gibson used in this time period.  The neck reinforcement makes for a stiff neck that will not bend from string tension.  The material we use has the same mass as the wood removed and does not color the sound. This Smeck features scalloped bracing and was constructed with a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, a Brazilian rosewood bridge, and a mahogany neck with a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. The "V" shaped neck has a width of 1 13/16" at the nut, and a depth of 0.83” at the first fret and 0.90” at the tenth fret.  The guitar has a 24 3/4” scale and weighs 3.84 lbs.  A bold, rich sounding, balanced guitar that responds well to both finger and flatpicking. Comes with a non-original hardshell case.
