  • Description: 1953 Gibson ES-175 D, This guitar has been refretboarded by Santa Cruz Guitar Company and is actually much nicer than the original one because it's inlayed with real Mother of Pearl on a Brazilian(same as orig.)board. The original being a plastic called pearloid. While this repair brings down the price below an original example consider who did the work and the materials used. You can see in the pictures where they had to take the slightest amount of wood off the neck itself up near the body. It looks like it's just the finish really and could be touched up with just the slightest overspray of lacquer. One other thing is that there is a Les Paul style plastic jack holder on the input jack which is fairly common in old Gibson archtops. The wood around the jack probably cracked long ago. Anyway the guitar plays great and sounds wonderful both acoustically and electric. All the other parts are original including the case which is ugly and needs a new handle but still does it's job.
