Gear Guides - Take me to the top!
One of the questions we are frequently asked at Gbase.com by music dealers is, "How can I get my Gbase.com Gear listing to appear at the very top of a search page?" Well, Gbase.com Gear Guides is the answer. Here's how it works:

What are Gear Guides?
Gear Guides are optional.
Gear Guides are broken into 5 categories.

What are Gear Guides?
Gbase.com Gear Guides are words or a group of words that you can bid on, in order to place specific instruments at the top of the search pages. When a visitor searches for an instrument on Gbase.com, the search engine will first look for instruments that have "Gear Guides." When a matching "Gear Guide" is found, it will place the instrument in the #1 position at the top of the page.

A Gear Guide can be bid on for each piece of inventory you own. After uploading a new piece of inventory you will be asked if you would like to bid on the Gear Guide for it. You can always add a Gear Guide later by finding the specific item in your inventory and clicking the "Bid" button.

Gear Guides are optional.
Gear Guides is an optional feature available to Gbase.com Elite Dealers. As an Elite Dealer, you do not have to bid on any instrument on your inventory list. It's only one of the new options to help you maximize your Gbase.com listings.

Gear Guides are broken into 5 categories:
(1)TYPE OF INSTRUMENT (2)BRAND (3)MODEL (4)YEAR (5)COLOR

A Gear Guide Example:
Let's say that you are uploading the following piece of inventory:
(1)TYPE: Electric Guitar     (2)BRAND: Fender     (3)MODEL: Stratocaster     (4)YEAR: 1963     (5)COLOR: Fiesta Red

For as little as 50 cents a day, you can place your "1963 Fender Fiesa Red Stratocaster" in the #1 listed position on search result pages for 1963 Fender Strats. All you have to do is enter a minimum bid of $0.50 in the Bid Amount field and then fill in the number of days you want to own this specific Gear Guide. Your bid covers the all five parts of the Gear Guide phrase shown above. 50 cents is the minimum initial bid. If someone has bid on any part of your Gear Guide before you, you will see their bid on the page and will have to beat that bid in order to win that Gear Guide. For example, if another dealer already placed a Gear Guide bid of $1 on their (1)Electric Solid Body (2)Fender (3)Stratocaster (4)1987 (5)Yellow you would both have "(1)Electric Solid Body", "(2)Fender" and "(3)Stratocaster" in common. You would have to place at least a bid of $1.10 on your piece inventory to be placed above this '87 Yellow Strat in any searches that contained "(1)Electric Solid Body", "(2)Fender" and/or "(3)Stratocaster".

After the initial bid of 50 cents, bids can be made in increments of 10 cents. Once you win a bid, you will be listed in the #1 spot on the search page for that item. If a consumer searches for that specific item, YOU will come up first. If they make a more general search, such as "Fender Stratocaster", you will still come up first, since you own Fender and 'stratocaster. If, however, they search for a specific item that is not yours, such as 1975 Fender Blue Stratocaster, you will come up farther down the list, as the consumer has requested a specific item that does not exactly match your Gear Guide. Still, owning Fender and 'stratocaster will greatly benefit you in more general searches, as well as for the specific item you have listed.

What happens when I own a Gear Guide?
Once you own a Gear Guide, your name will appear under all of the words in that Gear Guide as the owner. If another dealer wishes to bid on an item that contains the same word or words, they will have to outbid you, at which point their dealer name will appear under the words. For example, if you own "Fender", "Stratocaster", "Fiesta Red", "1963" and another dealer wants to bid on "Fender", "Stratocaster", "Blue", "1975" he will have to outbid YOU because on the words, "Fender" and "Stratocaster". If he does not outbid you, he will win "1975" and "Blue", but YOU will retain the words, "Fender" and "Stratocaster". If he DOES outbid you, you will lose Fender and 'stratocaster, but you will retain 1963 and Fiesta Red.

What happens if more then one dealer owns parts to the Gear Guide I want?
If more than one dealer owns parts of the Gear Guide you want for your piece of inventory, you will have to make a choice:
1) Outbid the highest bid and take the entire Gear Guide.
or
2) Choose the part or or parts you want and outbid only those.

For Example:
If "Fender" ,and "Stratocaster" are owned by Don's Music, at a bid of $2, and "Fiesta Red" and "1963" are owned by Jason's Guitars, for a bid of $1, you can either bid $2.10 and take all four words or bid $1.10 and take only "Fiesta Red" and "1963". Owning years and colors may seem less important than owning brand and model, but in specific searches they become quite important.

Can I cancel my bid?
You can cancel at any time but you will be billed for at least one day. If you cancel you will not be billed for the remaining days you had requested.

What happens if I'm outbid?
If you are outbid you will still come up above all other inventory and under the dealer(s) that outbid you. You will still be billed for the amount and number of days you have selected for your bid.

Outbid Scenarios:
Let's say you want to upload the following:

TYPE: Electric Guitar BRAND: Fender MODEL: Telecaster YEAR: 1963 COLOR: Natural

you'll see that when you get to the Gear Guide page, that you already own the words Electric Guitar, Fender, and 1963. The reason for this is that you already bid on them with your previous upload, the 1963 Fender Fiesta Red Stratocaster.

So technically, if anyone were to come to Gbase.com and search for any one of these words; Electric Guitar, Fender, Stratocaster, Telecaster, 1963, Fiesta Red and Natural, your guitar would come up in the #1 position. However, everything depends on what the visitor types in.

If they type in 1963 Fender Jazzmaster Fiesta Red, your Stratocaster would not come up, even though you own 1963, Fender and Fiesta Red. Jazzmaster qualifies this search so the visitor will only find Jazzmasters on his search results page.

Should another dealer upload the exact same instrument, he too can bid for this Gear Guide. If he outbids you, you will receive an e-mail indicating that You were just outbid for Electric Guitar; Fender: Telecaster; 1963: Natural. This e-mail will include a link that will take you to the Gear Guide page, showing you who outbid you and by how much. If you want to increase your bid amount, you can do so at that time. If not, you will no longer own this Gear Guide. In some cases, you may lose not an entire Gear Guide, but only one or two parts. For example; if someone bids on Fender: Telecaster: 1990: Green, you would not lose 1963 and Natural, you would only lose Fender and Telecaster.

Should you choose to bid again, you may do so to gain back the Gear Guide parts you have lost. If you outbid the dealer who originally outbid you, you will again take control of the entire Gear Guide. Now, that dealer will be alerted that you have outbid him, and will have a chance to bid again, if he so wishes.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It may happen that someone outbids you after only a few hours. If so, they take over the number one spot for that Gear Guide until you (or someone else) outbids him. In the case of bidding back and forth over the course of a day, the #1 spot might change hands several times; HOWEVER you are only billed for the highest bid you make in that day. If you bid 50 cents, $1, 1.20, and $1.40 to win a particular Gear Guide, you will be billed only $1.40 your highest bid.
