Description

1977 Alex Axe Double neck electric guitar purpotedly made from Gretsch bodies and necks circa mid 1970's and sold through Alex Guitars 48th Street New York City serial number 082 445 977. I believe the serial number deciphers as the 82nd instrument built in September of 1977, I believe total production was less than 100 instruments including single and double necks. Known New York City makers apprenticed and built these rare instruments for the retail store of the same name on 48th Street NYC, another local Bill Lawrence manufactured the Alex Axe branded hum-bucking pickups found in abundance on this instrument. Most of the production was 6 string solid bodies that resembled slightly earlier Gretsch double cutaway Rock Jets with carved headstocks. Double necks such as these are very costly to make, have limited demand and therefore are produced and sold in low numbers. Only a few of these expensive instruments were made and because of this a handful ended up with people of means such as Eric Clapton and purportedly Peter Townsend. The condition is spectacular all original, no modifications or repairs. Cosmetically almost as new with some minor age and usage wear. Included is the original blue hard shell case with blue interior. Another sound investment from VGA
