  • Description: This CA 1927 Bacon & Day Silver Bell #1 four string tenor banjo was made in Groton, CT. The Bacon and Day company was the collaboration of David Day, former plant manager of the Vega Banjo Co. and Fred Bacon. The headstock is inlaid with the B & D Silver Bell Logo along with fancy mother of pearl scroll work. This Silver Bell has an ivoroid bound 23" scale maple neck. The ebony fretboard has 19 frets with ten mother of pearl inlays and is 1 1/8" at the nut. It weighs 8.2 pounds. The black bound maple/mahogany resonator is stained in a dark finish. Other features include nickel plated metal parts, Silver Bell tone ring, 24 brackets, an 11 inch skin head, Oettinger adjustable fingers tailpiece, and an eyecatching f hole flange. The original tuners appear to have been replaced with Grover tuners. A single bushing is missing from one of the tuning keys. The frets show a minimal amount of wear. The arm rest show a little wear. The B & D Silver Bell #1 is a finely crafted American instrument that has a good volume and tone. It has the original worn double pocket green lined hard case with one broken latch.
