SN: 28023: Nice guitar. Ranks with the best of the 12-fretters I’ve had for tone and playability. First year braced for steel. It’s had a neck reset by Mark Tossman. No shim or falling off. Exact repro bridge by Tossman. Top has crowned dead solid perfect…no falling forward of the bridge or bellying behind. Looks like one area of touchup on the back of the neck where the thumb would reset in first position. About the size of a quarter. Modern bridge pins, otherwise original. The top has some playwear and three circles the size of a quarter where very small UFOs once landed. But seriously, it appears someone used adhesive to attach a raised pickguard. I’m grateful he didn’t glue a guard down. The fingerboard appears to have been planed but these have thin FBs to begin with. An installed truss rod is the 300 lb gorilla in the room. It cannot be seen without a mirror. But, clearly the prior owner, purveyor of the cowboy chords and guard, didn’t like the bar frets so went to T-frets and, probably at the advice of the luthier, an adjustable truss rod. It doesn’t add that much weight. It does seem to add more structure to the bottom end and maybe a little more sustain. I had Mark reinstall bar frets but we left the rod since I liked what it was doing both structurally and tonally. Super “no grain” Brazilian that is to die for. Even a 30s Martin would be jealous. Original case in great shape. Priced well under what a perfect one would sell for.
