  • Description: An American classic, the Martin D-28, this one was built in '64 (SN. 196XXX). This one has had a few cracks repaired over its lifetime and has been lightly oversprayed (professionally done, factory quality surface). The overspray has crazed evenly over the entire body. The solid brazilian rosewood back shows several repaired cracks and the sides are crack free, though the treble side has a small patch measuring about 1/4" by 3/4", possibly from a repaired jack hole. That repair is well done and under the finish. The solid European spruce top (Martin had a supply of European tops that they used on some guitars in the 50s and 60s) has one repaired top crack (splinted) that is on the bass side between the bridge and soundhole, well done both structurally and cosmetically. The pickguard is replaced. The original bridge and fretboard are in excellent shape along with the frets and tuners. The interior of the guitar is clean and all the bracing solid. The top shows no belly or bridge rotation under tension of medium gauge strings. The guitar had a neck reset done by a Martin authorized warranty center several years ago (the nut was replaced at the same time), the neck angle is great and the action set at a medium height for bluegrass play but with plenty of saddle left showing to lower the action if desired. The neck shows proper relief under tension, intonation is good. The guitar has a big voice, loud and with excellent clarity and articulation. Very good for fingerpicking but in full voice when flat picked. Excellent all around. Comes with a non-original thermoplastic hardshell case. $5500
