Description

Baritone and extended-range guitars are more often than not solidbody rock machines, but leave it to D'Angelico to challenge that perception with the Deluxe SS Baritone. Built with a 26.75 medium-range scale length, the Deluxe SS baritone is an easy adjustment for the standard guitar player who is looking to dip their toes into the world of low-end rumble. This archtop boasts a laminate mahogany body and top, a deviation from the standard archtop's maple that gives it a warm tone to accentuate the lower B-B register. The neck is a "C" shape 3-piece maple/walnut/maple with a wonderfully smooth ebony fingerboard and a versatile 16-inch radius. D'Angelico's exclusive Seymour Duncan Great Dane pickups nail the sound of early '40s "dog ear" P-90s — biting bridge pickup tones with a warm and wooly neck sound that's favored by legions of jazzers. More and more guitarists are turning to the increased low-end potential of baritones, and with the Deluxe SS Baritone, D'Angelico is proving that they're capable of far more than just high-gain chunk!

D'Angelico exclusive Seymour Duncan Great Dane P-90s

Seymour Duncan designed this exclusive set of '40s-inspired P-90s to have a vintage tone to match this semi-hollow's vintage aesthetics. These pickups have all the bark and bite of their namesake in the treble position, perfect for nailing old-school blues and rock 'n' roll leads. The neck pickup delivers the exceedingly rich and deep clean tone that old P-90s are famous for, and it's a natural complement to the Deluxe SS Baritone's extended range!

Comfortable 26.75-inch scale for crossover guitarists

Baritones typically have quite a large scale length compared to standard guitars. Many models come dangerously close to the 30-inch range — that's short-scale bass territory! D'Angelico designed the SS Baritone with a 26.75-inch scale (25 on the standard SS) to be more accessible to the average guitarist who wants to add a new sound to their toolbox with minimal adjustment. This provides a deep, rumbling tone when set to B–B baritone standard tuning, but it also has the secondary effect of making the Deluxe SS Baritone a joy to play with a slinky, low-tension feel.

The D'Angelico legacy

After mastering his craft during an 18-year apprenticeship, luthier John D'Angelico opened his shop in Manhattan's Little Italy in 1932. Catering to New York's many jazz musicians over the ensuing three decades, D'Angelico and a single apprentice became New York's foremost stringed-instrument builders, creating over 1,000 treasured archtop guitars until John's death in 1964. After his passing, D'Angelico's legacy lived on only through his rare, legendary instruments. After decades, the D'Angelico brand has resurfaced, bringing back the playability and attention to detail of the company's New York roots. From a modest shop in Little Italy to the world stage, D'Angelico's dedication to quality craftsmanship ensures that this brand won't be going dormant again any time soon.
