Description: This fine instrument is a 1967 Epiphone Rivoli bass in a cherry finish. The Epiphone Rivoli bass was introduced in 1959 and was produced for 11 years. The cherry finish became available in 1966. This one is in perfect working order. The original bridge has been replaced and there are two sets of (2) holes where a bridge cover would have been. They have been filled with wax. Everything else on the bass is original and works as intended. Like its cousin, the Gibson EB-2, these 335 style semi-hollow body basses became favorites of the late 60’s British blues-rock bass players like the Yardbirds’ Paul Samwell-Smith and Chas Chandler of the Animals. The single pickup in this bass is a huge humbucker, identical to the EB-2. Also like the EB-2, it has the push button placed on the bridge side in-between the tone and volume knobs. The push button is the “baritone switch.” When pushed, a bass roll-off circuit is invoked that emulates a baritone guitar sound…think of the beginning of The Animals classic, “It’s my life,” that’s Chas playing the Rivoli on the baritone setting. The frets are original and have plenty of play wear left in them. The truss rod works as intended. This beauty weighs in at 9 pounds. The guitar will be professionally packed with care and will be shipped with a gig-bag.
