  • Description: This old timer was built in 1953 and features the blue New York label and tons of personality! It is currently sporting two DeArmond™ pickups (seem to be '70's era) Judging by the routing and the age of the wiring harness we believe it to have been born with a single DeArmond™ and then upgraded to two pickups early in its life (perhaps a factory custom order?) This model features laminated maple top, back and sides; three piece cherry neck; enamel shield peghead inlay and Epi block fingerboard inlays; Brazilian rosewood fingerboard; bound body and fingerboard. Five of the "E" epsilon tuners are original; non-original and very cool Gretsch Space Control Bridge; what appears to be a Gibson pickguard, (both from the 50’s) and non-original volume and tone knobs (three from the 60’s and one from the 90’s). There is some shrinking to the binding, as is common with this era Epi. Aside from the typical finish checking, she’s very clean: body, neck and fingerboard have no real dents, dings, or scratches. The neck is a very comfortable C shape, not too large. The action is nice and low , very playable with either 11’s or 12’s, depending on your preference for string bending or tone to the bone! The frets appear to be the originals. Unplugged , it has a nice smooth acoustic sound you’d expect from a laminate guitar. Plugged in, it sounds as cool as you would expect the DeArmonds too-- clear and bright with great definition: reminiscent of a mid- fifties pre-Filtertron. A very cool and unique vintage archtop with tons of class! Body size at lower bout: 17 3/8 “ Scale length: 25 ½”. Nut width: 1 11/16” Comes with newer hardshell case.
