The chrome faceplate has scratches and scuffs but is still shinny and all the silk-screened edges are completely ledgible. This amp has been played and loved for years. Voice: This little 4 watt amp is a beast and quite the distortion box! It's voice is thick and full, especially for being a Champ®. Breaks up around 3 and is in full distortion around 5. It can clean up when the volumes around 3 and the volume control on the guitar is rolled down a little. It has the classic Fender® clean chime at low volumes, but thickens up when the amp's volume is cranked. Brief History: The Fender® Champ® was first introduced in 1948 and was called the "Champion 800". It fearured gray linen covering, hammerloid chassis color, and was 4 watts. By 1949, the amp was renamed "Champion 600" and had a 6" speaker, 2-toned marbled leatherette cover, and was only 3 watts. Come 1953, it was again renamed "Champ®" and was covered in tweed. The next year, 1954, it was pumped up to its previous wattage of 4 watts. By 1964, the Champ® was given 3 controls and black tolex covering. As the years followed, many models and variations of the Champ® were produced. The Champ® still remains one of the most regarded tone giants for its size.
