It was the late 1960’s and like many of us Fender thought they would experiment. What would happen if we injected dye into a tree let it grow long enough to disperse the color, and then make a guitar out of the colored wood? This was a pretty radical idea for Fender at that time and the results of their open-mindedness culminated in the “Wildwood” series. They used this crazy looking wood for the production of Fender Kingmans and Coronados exclusively; both models received the Wildwood moniker when this wood was used. Fender assigned Roman numerals to identify each color; they made a total of six different colors hence I-VI. We are pleased to offer this 1972 Fender Wildwood III serial number 18998 and have assessed the condition of this rare colorful piece as all-original near mint. This fantastic example is a near perfect no issue guitar, 100% original no modifications or repairs. Perfectly straight neck with a working truss rod, no fret wear. No cracks or breaks, the instrument is structurally perfect and cosmetically pristine. Being top of the line acoustic Fender adorned this guitar with their pearl button deluxe Grovers, the same was done on some Wildwood Coronado’s. This guitar like many of these sounds fantastic, they have a composite dowel that runs the length of the instrument for strength that I believe also functions almost as a sound post. They are typically bright but great for recording and even though D sized have less bass than would be expected. I like them very much sonically as they have all the frequency you want to hear in a mix without removing bass. This one is orange, orange back and sides with a solid spruce top, unbelievable. Included with this fine example is its original Victoria hard shell case also in great condition. Perfect for playing, collecting and speculating this is better than the money it cost, a super rare vintage Fender acoustic, collect all six colors.
