This 1971 Fender Mustang Bass in Competition Blue is leaning toward a Greenish hue with an apparent patina that displays the exposure and use that this compact short-scale has endured. This bass sounds immaculate with a loud, vocal character to the sound and a little bit more sustain than your average example with a round and full sound from the stock split coil PU when you plug it in. A true joy to play thanks to the Compact size, light body weight, and a comfy medium "C" neck that displays a "1MAY71B" stamp. 100% original and in great playing shape with heavier finish checking, body dings, and a ding on the neck between the 1st and 2nd frets (pictured.) This is an excellent playing and sounding example of a vintage Mustang bass! Includes original hardshell case.

Check out the feature from our luthier Tyler in the ECG Newsletter:

"The inevitable yellowing of clear lacquer over time has taken a horrific toll on some unfortunate examples of vintage custom color Fenders. Some beautiful Sonic Blue examples have been greened into a light shade of zucchini vomit. Some Olympic White instruments just look like piss. But every so often, this chromatic distortion produces a result pleasing to the eye, as is the case with this Competition Blue Mustang Bass. Now more of a dark Lake Placid Blue, its finish is unique but still unmistakably appropriate for a Fender of the era.

From a player’s perspective, this is quite a unique example as well. When plugged in, this bass is shockingly punchy and abundant in sustain, a relative oddity for these student model basses. I can’t think of a more perfect instrument for the musician who demands vintage Fender tone without the boat-anchor weight of a Jazz Bass."
