It has the Olympic white matching headstock with the gold transition logo. Wow, what a beauty and what a story. The Saga of a Guitar We purchased this guitar from a local Michigan dealer who had acquired it from its original owner. Along with the guitar came 2 guitar straps (one a Fender) and two picks from a very well known Detroit area music store named Massimino Music. Most importantly it came to us with three promo photos (of course they will be included with the guitar) from three bands that the original owner was a member of. Her name is Mary Linton. She and her twin sister Carol (she played the Gibson Thunderbird Bass) were in the bands together. Judging from the photos, it looks like the first band was a coed endeavor named Experimental Blend. The twins then joined The Debutantes around 1965. The Debutantes toured the U.S., opening for many top Motown acts such as the Supremes, Little Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye. They also did USO tours in Germany and the Far East. We were able to track down and speak with Jan McClellan, who founded the Debutantes, and she is a great lady! Thanks to her, there are several more high quality photos of the Debutantes, with Mary and the Jazzmaster™ which were taken for a Life Magazine shoot (on disk). Check out Jan McClellan’s website (www.debutantesband.com). You’ll find it to be a very interesting piece of rock ‘n’ roll history. Jan just contacted me to let me know that one of the Debutantes’ songs will be featured on a new girl band compilation CD from England. The Jazzmaster™ is on the cover and the CD will be included in the sale. I’m not positive if my chronology is correct, but after the Debutantes I believe the twins joined a band named the Loreleis. The Loreleis were another Detroit area all girl band that is significant for two reasons. The band was managed by a young man named Mike Quatro (www.mikequatro.com), who went on to be involved with the careers of such rock luminaries as Bob Seger, Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper, Suzi Quatro (his sister and Leather Tuscadero on Happy Days TV show), MC-5, Iggy Pop, Dick Wagner, and George Clinton (P-Funk). The lead singer of the Loreleis was a lady named Shaun “Stoney” Murphy. This was her first real band but she later went on to sing with such legends as Little Feat, Clapton, Moody Blues, John Hiatt, Bob Seger, and Meatloaf to name just a few. Enough history and provenance… Considering the active career that Mary Linton had, she sure took good care of her baby. This guitar is in excellent condition. She has some small dents on front (hardly noticeable) and some minor checking on the back. There’s a tiny chip in the finish on the top of the headstock. It plays and sounds great and everything on her works as was intended. The pickups measure 7.83 k ohms for the bridge and … The guitar weighs in at 8lbs 2 oz. and will ship in its original Fender® hard shell case. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity…A beautiful example of a Fender® Jazzmaster™ with a wonderful piece of Rock ‘n’ Roll history attached to it.
