  • Description: Fender® Precision Model Solid Body Electric Bass Guitar, c. 1971, made in Fullerton, California, serial # 279395, black finish, alder body, maple cap neck. There is an interesting and slightly unusual combination of features on this great looking (and sounding) CBS-era Precision Bass®. The neck is the maple cap (no skunk stripe) style generally seen from 1966-70, before the original style maple neck was introduced and is the thinner "B" width common to 1970 and after. It carries a green stamp "5-04-041-B" which is generally thought to indicate April 1971, although the neck itself has a slightly older feel. The body is original black finish with the white pickguard, the pickup is dated to 1970 and the pots carry a 1966 date code typical of Fenders into the early 70's. The body is unusually light for this era and there is a "Special" stamp under the neck heel; this may have been an artist or convention sample instrument. With a very light resonant body this is a most lively sounding Fender® bass; we find its playing qualities unusually good for an 1970 era Precision. One of the most interesting Precisions we have had in a while!Overall length is 46 1/4 in. (117.5 cm.), 12 7/8 in. (32.7 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 34 in. (864 mm.). Width of nut is 1 5/8 in. (41 mm.). Appears all original, some general wear but nothing serious-recent expert refret with correct style wire, no other alterations. Missing the chrome tailpiece and handrest covers, otherwise complete. Includes the original black HSC. Generally Excellent Condition.
