Description

We've come across a few incredible vintage Fenders lately and here we have yet another! Offered here is a transitional era L-series 1965 Stratocaster built just as CBS was taking over and before they could "spoil the sauce" much, as it were. This one is in particularly incredible condition; far better than 95% (my guess) of the '65 Strats still in existence.

The neck on this incredible Strat is dated August, 1965. The C-shaped maple neck has depth measurements of .84" at the first fret increasing to .97" at the twelfth fret. The original frets remain in superb condition as shown in the photos. It has a beautiful figured Brazilian Rosewood fretboard and the original nut. The Alder body and finish are also all original. The gray bottom pickups and the electronics codes all date to 1965. The original 3-way switch is still installed and all the other solder joints appear original as well. The guitar has a total weight of just 7 pounds, 8 ounces.

The condition of this guitar makes is particularly special. The vast majority of the instruments from this era that don't come close to the example in terms of condition and originality. The finish remains bright and colorful and nearly all of it is still intact; just a couple of small areas along the bottom edge show paint loss. As the included photos show, there are indentations and the like that are evident upon very close inspection, but it is amazing just how clean this 56 year old example is! It comes in its original "no tail" logo case in very good condition, with the "ash tray" bridge cover and tremolo arm.

The vintage vibe just drips from this guitar, although it's condition and superb playability may fool you into thinking it is a more recent Custom Shop "light relic". It isn't - this is the real deal! This guitar is much more than it's great history, however, as it has great tone and is a great player too. Please check out the brief 'Soundcloud' sample below. Even with just three pickup positions, this thing sounds heavenly.

If an investment grade, and highly playable vintage Stratocaster is on your "bucket list", here you go. Incredible.
