Description

In 1981 Fender-CBS hired Dan Smith as director of marketing for Fender electric guitars. In an effort to rejuvenate quality control Dan Smith oversaw an upgrading of the basic Stratocaster. By late 1981 the new production model was unveiled as the 1982 Stratocaster. It featured a pre-CBS smaller headstock a four bolt neck plate, an overwound X-1 pickup in the bridge position (7.25K ohms on this one) and a body end truss-rod adjustment without the bullet nut. Known today the "Dan Smith" Stratocaster.

This one was originally bought (possibly from us) by a great local guitar player who didn't realize at the time that he hated single coil pickups. Soon there after he installed a humbucker in the bridge position (moving the bridge single coil to the middle position), so there is a bit of a rout to accommodate the larger pickup. But alas he found himself never playing the guitar. He eventually removed the humbucker and put the original middle position Strat pickup in the bridge position (duh). We'll reposition them all to their original locations, just ask.

So what we have here is a real clean, great looking, great playing 30 something year old Strat that's going for below market due to the minor humbucker rout (see photos).

It's a nice one!
