Description

This 1984 Stratocaster is in excellent shape, neck and frets are fine, no wear issues. There are several "marks and dings" here and there, what you would expect from a guitar of this age that has been played and enjoyed.

This guitar is mostly original except for two items. The neck plate has been changed to a unit that does not have the hole for the micro-tilt adjustment. The micro-tilt is still there, just the neck plate is changed. The original American Standard pickups are fitted, and there has been a 2 position switch added that expands the pickup selection options just like a G&L. When the switch is in the "up" position the 5-way selector switch functions as normal. When the switch is in the "down" position, the 5-way switch functions as follows: position 1 & 5 gives bridge and neck pickups, positions 2 & 4 gives all 3 pickups, position 3 gives middle pickup.

In the early 1980s Fender® made an effort to reinvent itself employing talents like Paul Rivera and Dan Smith. The 1981-82 Standard Stratocaster® ("Dan Smith") was phased out in favor of a revised Standard Stratocaster® featuring only one volume knob and one tone knob and the input jack on the pickguard. Other features of the 1983-84 Standard Strats include the Fender® "FreeFlyte" tremolo system, smaller headstock with "New" headstock decal logo, and the return to the headstock for the truss rod adjustment (without the Bullet® this time). This guitar serial # E335922, is really nice shape. Overall cosmetics are very good. This is a very nice playing Strat®, the Rosewood fingerboard is a nice touch, and it of course has the "sound". One could extol on and on about Fender®'s ownership by CBS, this guitar is among the last of the Strats made in USA under CBS ownership, which in itself is an important piece of Fender® history. Collect it or play it !
