Description: 1966 Fender® Telecaster®, featuring bound body, faded 3-tone sunburst finish, rosewood fingerboard, and white, 3- ply guard. This is a Custom Telecaster® conversion, i.e. the guitar was originally blonde, but at some time in the past, the body was refinished in sunburst, and binding was added to the edges. This is a pro job, both the binding and finish were done correctly, the guitar is beautiful. The neck was also refinished at the same time, in nitrocellulose lacquer, and an early Fender® Spaghetti logo applied to the head stock. The older logo, combined with the faded 3 tone body finish, make the guitar look much more like a '59 Custom Telecaster® vs. a '66 Custom Telecaster®. As the finish was done long ago, the binding has yellowed, and the finish shows beautiful checking throughout. The guitar features it's original bridge pickup, and replaced neck pickup. The tuners are the original double-line Klusons. These tuners have always been on the guitar, hence no extra tuner holes or enlarged tuner shaft holes. Also, thankfully, there isn't a forest of string tree holes in the head stock that are typical when an old Fender® has been "Schallerized." Just the correct, single, string tree. The frets are in beautiful shape, and look to be original vintage style. It is possible that the guitar has had a refret, not sure. Either way, frets and fingerboard are perfect and pristine. The body has been refinished as mentioned and was routed at one point for a humbucker and horn mounted selector switch. The bridge and saddles are original, as are the pots and tone cap. Volume pot is coded 137 6537 and tone pot is coded 304 6622. The knobs, control plate, jack, jack cup, etc. are original. The CRL 1452 switch is original. The strap buttons are original. The guard looks original, but is more likely an older replacement. The serial number is 174XXX. Neck date is JUL 66. The guitar weighs 7 lbs. 1 oz. The neck is typical of the period, a full, moderately chunky, "C" shape. These necks are why '66 Teles are highly prized. The neck measures .823" at the first fret and .920" at the 12th. The guitar ships in a vintage, black tolex case that is the correct type, but probably not the original case. Killer vintage tone from this beautiful, old, Telecaster®. Keep the guitar for 48 hours to play and hear it, if not happy for any reason, return for full refund minus shipping.
