  • Description: G&L was Leo Fender’s contemporary vision of what electric guitars and basses could be. His unlimited creativity and passion shaped contemporary music, a man whose instruments broke traditions and established new ones. At G&L, he continued to press onward with innovative designs, refining concepts he pioneered decades before while immersing himself in developments occurring throughout the guitar and bass industry. Today’s G&L carries on Leo’s vision, always looking for new ways to enhance the experience of musicians. The G&L Custom Creations Department was established with the idea that the craftsmen who lovingly build G&L instruments should have the freedom to explore new ways to express what a G&L instrument can be. The Korina Collection brings the latest stunning instruments from the Custom Creations Department, the result of authentic collaboration amongst passionate musicians sharing ideas on the shop floor. This Limited Edition Korina ASAT Bluesboy is no exception. There is only 100 this G&L Custom Creations Korina ASAT Bluesboy being produced. Constructed from a 2-piece Korina (African White Limba) body, finished in Aged Natural Gloss, bolt-on Quartersawn Hard-rock Maple neck that is G&L's Classic C profile (also known as their #1 neck) that was given the Gloss Light Tint finish, and has a gorgeous Pau Ferro fingerboard. The 12" radius fingerboard is capped with 22 medium jumbo frets and has a nut width of 1 5/8" that tapers out to 2 1/32" at the 12th fret. Weighs in on our digital scale at 8 lbs 12 ounces. Has a carved bone nut and Sperzel Standard tuning keys. Was given a master Volume and master Tone control and a 3-way toggle selector. The Korina Collection concept all started with looking at a collector’s version of the ASAT Classic Bluesboy. From hip hop to alternative to straight-ahead American rock ‘n roll, the Bluesboy delivers the goods, and the marriage of the Seymour Duncan Seth Lover neck humbucker to the single coil G&L Magnetic Field Design bridge pickup is a match made in heaven. Just ask George Pajon, Jr. of the Black Eyed Peas, Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, or Brad Whitford of Aerosmith. Having experimented with Mahogany on a Bluesboy, a question persisted: How about Korina? Would the magic still be there? Absolutely. Korina brought warm shades of Mahogany but with more snap and brightness tempered by a Paul Ferro fingerboard. If you're a fan of the Bluesboy, you've got to check out this one. Next to tone, playability is the most important characteristics of a musical instrument. To ensure all G&L USA guitars and basses deliver the ultimate playing experience, every US-made G&L instrument has analysis and fret dressing performed using the PLEK Pro ("Plekked"). With the PLEK Pro the end result is ideal string action for each instrument. This amazing machine first uses a calibrated index probe to scan a neck to determine curvature and the precise height of each fret, as well as the exact width of the neck at the nut. This procedure is performed while the neck is under tension to accurately simulate how the neck will respond when tuned to pitch. The PLEK Pro determines the exact amount of fret material needed be removed from each fret to achieve a perfectly level playing surface. The G&L craftsman studies the graphical and numeric data reported by the PLEK Pro then uses the software to optimize the dressing procedure for each and every neck. Now the machine is ready to begin its work. The PLEK Pro instructs its computer-controlled cutting head to level and crown the frets. Once this is complete, the PLEK Pro initializes a small, high-speed rotary mill to cut string slots to the precise depth and width for the specified gauge of each string. Finally, the G&L operator instructs the PLEK Pro to perform a post-process scan of the neck to be sure the outcome of the operations is flawless. After the PLEK Pro process, the G&L craftsman performs fret and nut finish work for a butter smooth feel and lustrous appearance. Plek Pro Improves Quality and Consistency The PLEK Pro has been developed to be used in guitar production factories and service-repair shops as a tool that not only performs precise fret dressing but also assists with quality control and R&D. PLEK Pro raises the quality of instruments to an extremely high and consistent level. This is a major breakthrough since the PLEK Pro identifies precisely what needs to be done for perfect fretwork, executes this rapidly, and delivers perfect results on the instrument. G&L's latest neck construction is the result of intensive research and development, using our latest Computer Aided Design (CAD) efforts, Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) technology, special diagnostic functions of our Plek Pro machine, and of course, the skilled hands, eyes and ears of our craftsmen. G&L's latest construction methodology uses a one piece neck blank with the truss rod installed underneath the fingerboard. In the case of an all-maple neck, a layer of the maple neck blank is sliced off, and this slice becomes the fingerboard, ensuring a consistent appearance of a solid, one-piece maple neck. Truss rod technology has evolved over the years, and G&L has carefully studied design options before finalizing its latest design. This contemporary design incorporates a secondary, flat-sided rod which bows away from primary rod. Unlike a vintage truss rod, this design does not compress the neck longitudinally in order to function; compression contributes to distortion of the fingerboard curvature. Operation is both fluid and accurate with the articulation of the neck, the "relief", being very consistent across the length of the neck. Unlike similar rods available today, G&L's rod has an additional anchor for the heel end of the neck, to help ensure long-term stability and ensure that the rod will never shear through the adjustment end of the neck. Finally, the channel for the rod is also carefully designed to provide a snug fit for the rod while ensuring free and complete articulation. A 10 year warranty and deluxe G&L hard shell case both come included.
