Hardware: Nickel covered large humbucking pickup in middle position, nickel covered mini-humbucker in bridge, each with individual master volume and tone controls, 4-position rotary tone switch, nickel bridge, nickel bridge cover, nickel tuning keys. Brief History: The EB-3 was first introduced in 1961, and is the descendant of the EB-0. When first released, featured a black plastic cover on the neck pickup, as well as the neck pickup being closer to the fingerboard. Had a hand-rest between the pickups, and a crown inlay on the headstock. Even had an exposed bridge and a string mute. The black plastic cover was replaced with a metal cover in 1962. In 1969, the hand-rest was removed, was given a metal bridge cover, had a slotted headstock, and no crown inlay on headstock. Between 1971 and 1973, a walnut and natural finish were available. Then from 1976 to 1979 was offered in a white finish. The EB-3 was discontinued mid 1979. Cosmetics: This bass has seen its fair share of play. The body has some dings, chips, bumps, and scratches but nothing major. There is a small chip on the neck side tip of the treble side horn, and a deep indentation on the outside edge of the treble side horn. There are small dings and bumps along the edges of the body. The back of the neck has very small chips in the finish; one behind the 1st fret, 7th fret, and 10th fret. Some of the finish has worn from play on the treble side of the neck where the fingerboard is attached. The edges of the headstock on the front have some minor dings. Above the volute, on the back of the headstock, the 3-pieces of wood that make up the neck have shrunk at different rates, causing riffs in the finish that appear to be cracks but are NOT cracks. The frets are in great shape with plenty of meat and barely any wear. The bass side of the large humbucking pickup has tarnished a little, only to the point wear it has lost its sheen. Playability: The neck is a soft V profile. This is a consignment item and will be setup upon purchase.
