  • Description: 1959 Gibson EH-500 Skylark Serial # 9 1340. 1958 saw the introduction of some pretty radical design in the Gibson factory. From the Flying "V" to the Explorer; modernist experimentation flourished. The introduction of the Skylark lap steel that same year was in keeping with the prevailing design philosophy. Featuring a lone melody maker single coil pick up and a simple tone and volume circuit, the Skylark is a powerful sounding steel that has a gritty with a P-90ish growl at high volume. It is currently tuned to open "E" and is well suited to performances in your local Barrel House or Juke Joint. The Skylark is in great shape too, with a few minor dings on otherwise clean Korina body. It is missing its cover plate, which is just as well if you are a palm muter. It is all original with black button, three on a plate Kluson Deluxe tuners, chrome metal hard-wear and cool open block fret board markers. The electronics are all original and unmodified. The Steel has been set up and the pots cleaned here at Folkway. With original hard shell case
