  • Description: Gibson ES-175D Model Arch Top Hollow Body Electric Guitar (1957), made in Kalamazoo, Michigan, serial # A-26157, sunburst lacquer finish, laminated maple body; mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard, original brown tolex hard shell case. A very fine and early example of a double-PAF ES-175D from Gibson's finest era, nicely original with comparatively little wear. This guitar represents the design apex of Gibson's 16" electric Jazz guitar perennial, with two of the first "Patent Applied For" (non-stickered-the "patent applied for" markings were not used until late '57) humbucking pickups and the four knob/one switch wiring rig that has become the classic Gibson electric layout. Many of these fine instruments have been stripped of their electronics over the years (material for all the 'extra' 1950's Les Pauls floating around had to come from something!) so finding a fine unaltered one is always a treat. This guitar features a laminated maple body with triple-bound top and single bound back; mahogany neck with a single bound rosewood fingerboard and double parallelogram inlays. The nickel-plated tailpiece is a special design used only on the ES-175 and the bridge is the standard rosewood adjustable style. The unbound headstock features a pearl Gibson logo and crown inlay, and carries Kluson Deluxe tuners with "single line' keystone buttons. The "A-artist" serial number puts this guitar as shipped around September1957, the body also carries a 1957 factory order number. These guitars have always been considered one of Gibson's greatest classic designs, and have traditionally been preferred for straight electric jazz work to many fancier and more expensive guitars. The smaller 'tighter' sounding maple body creates a more controllable sound, and coupled with the best-sounding humbucking pickups ever produced makes for a smooth and versatile package. Although not a rare guitar compared to many vintage Gibsons this is a particularly nice instrument and a great playing and well as quite collectable guitar.Overall length is 40 9/16 in. (103 cm.), 16 in. (40.6 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 3 3/8 in. (8.6 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 24 3/4 in. (629 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). A nice, all original example; missing the pickguard but otherwise complete. A few small finish dings and chips (a couple on the back and a some on the headstock) but overall the rich, dark sunburst finish is quite clean and unfaded. Jack has been replaced (original "jack in the can" included) othewise all original electronics and hardware. A very fine playing and sounding 175, with an extremely battered original brown case. Overall Excellent Condition.
