  • Description: The ES-225 was unusual among the mostly traditional Gibson designs of its era‚Äîa thin-body, laminated top (to cut down on feedback) instrument with one P-90 single-coil pickup in the middle of the body, between where a neck and bridge pickup would typically go. The ES-225TD‚Äî‚ÄúD‚Äù meaning ‚Äúdual,‚Äù as in, ‚Äúdual pickup‚Äù‚Äîmakes a crucial change from the typical ES-225, giving it the addition of a second pickup with the two placed in the traditional neck-bridge arrangement. This gives it two P-90s, the pickups renowned for their percussive bite and clarity, making it a much closer companion to the larger and typically more expensive ES-175. Combined with the Les Paul-designed trapeze tailpiece, this is a very versatile guitar that combines classy looks with a unique ability to dive into any musical style. Coming in the rare blonde finish, this is an example worthy of a collector or a player. The finish is pristine, with no visible checking anywhere on the guitar. This is a player as well, with ample fret life left in the medium frets that Gibson switched to around this time. You can dig into this for bends, play palm-muted chicken-pickin‚Äô lines, or play fat, round jazz runs. This guitar handles everything with ease and is one of the friendliest ES-225s we‚Äôve played, with its round neck‚Äîtypical of the ‚Äô59 style‚Äîcomfortable and smooth at all points. In 1959, Gibson made some of its most legendary solidbody instruments, including the sunburst Les Paul Standard. It also continued to produce hollowbody guitars that continue to be loved by jazz and rockabilly players as well as rock guitarists looking for a throatier tone. The versatile ES-225TD, with its dual pickups, echoes the classic ES-175, but its relative affordability makes it attractive to a large number of players‚Äîif you can find one.
