Not only does this guitar play superbly but it is an interesting piece of the ES-335 evolution.

As we all know, the first 335s had a Stop Tail Piece and dot inlays. By 1962 the dots were up-scaled to block inlays. In 1964 they went from the Stop Tail Piece to a trapeze tail piece (reducing some of the sustain). In 1977 a coil tap switch was added. It wasn't really necessary but it did no harm. Then, waxing nostalgic, in 1981 the ES-335 went back to the Stop Tail Piece and dot inlays.

But what he have here could (should?) be considered a very rare 1979 "1962 Reissue" (except of course for the wine red finish, volute and chrome hardware). No? Yes! Even the 1980 Gibson catalog shows the trapeze tailpiece.

The only mod is the Klusons were replaced with Schallers.

And did I mention that this guitar play superbly? See for yourself.
