  • Description: This is the earliest 81 335 I've had (day 231) made the day before the one Scotty Moore had that I saw on display at Philly. Find me an earlier one. This overlaps the last block necks of 81, so it's got to be one of the first ones off the line. First year 80's reissues are generally considered the next best thing to a 58-68 ES 335. Shaw PAFs and a big wide neck make them a good choice for folks who don't want to spend huge dollars and then worry about leaving the house with it. The neck on this is like a late 59-not too huge at the first fret but a handful and a half by the time you hit 12. For some reason- and I don't know why-first years seem to command a premium. The only thing different between an 81 and a later one is the bridge (Schaller vs Nashville). So, we'll just buck the convention here and price it like the 81-85 blondies. This one is in really nice shape but has some buckle rash (not a lot) on the back. Front looks excellent. This one sounds as close to a real 60's dot neck as any I've had. The last owner should have kept this one. It's a dandy.
