  • Description: 1951 Gibson ES-5 Switchmaster is all original, in excellent condition and perfect playing order. Came to us missing the lower strap button. Comes with the original Gibson hard shell case. Details: 17" lower bout width, 12 1/2" upper bout width, 3 3/8" body depth, 21" body length from neck pocket to lower strap button, 1 11/16" nut width that tapers out to 2 1/16" at the 12th fret, 25 1/2" scale length, weighs 7 pound 7 ounces. Materials: 3-ply bound arched flamed Maple top, 3-ply arched flamed Maple back, flamed Maple sides, set 2-piece flamed Maple neck with center stripe (chunky '50s neck profile), 5-ply bound Rosewood fingerboard with pointed-end, pearl block inlays, 20 frets, bound f-holes, compensated Rosewood bridge, bound headstock, bone nut, 5-ply b/w/b/w/b beveled-edge pickguard. Hardware: Gold Kluson Sealfast tuning keys (A.K.A waffleback tuning keys), gold trapeze tailpiece with 3 raised parallelograms, 3 P-90 pickups each with individual master volumes and a single master tone control located on treble side upper bout. Brief History: First introduced in 1949 and was discontinued by 1962. Through the years of production it saw many changes in its design; different pickup magnets, added volume and tone controls per pickup, pickup selector switch, and many different tailpiece designs. No reissue was produced till 1996. Cosmetics: Extremely clean. No cracks, no breaks, no repairs. One small ding in the top in-between the edge and bottom of the f-hole on the treble side. Back has very slight buckle rash, so slight it can only be seen in the proper light. The frets show some playing wear, but for its age they are in great condition. Has one small scratch in the center of the upper bout. Very light bumps on headstock corners. The tailpiece has a small amount of tarnish at the hinge. Back of the B and high E tuning keys are tarnished but work perfectly.
