Summary: The True Historic line from the Gibson Custom Shop honors the legacy of some of the most sought after instruments on the planet, paying homage by replicating the finest details and nuances. From new plastics composed of the original vintage spec material, to the double carving of tops and necks to ensure vintage accurate profiles and dishing, these True Historic reissues are about as close as it gets to owning a real vintage instrument. A new finish process with time-intensive wet sanding by hand completes the package, delivering an instrument that not only looks authentic, but feels and sounds authentic too. Capped off with all hide glue construction and extensive setup process, the new True Historic line captures the essence of our favorite vintage pieces and creates a new era of golden age instruments just waiting to be discovered. Due to the time-intensive labor and old world manufacturing processes, True Historic models are extremely limited in production.

Body: Solid non-weight relieved Mahogany. Carved figured maple attached with hot hide glue. Thin nitrocellulose lacquer finish in Vintage Cherry Sunburst, wet-sanded by hand and aged by Tom Murphy in the Gibson Custom Shop. Single-ply cream binding.

Neck: One piece mahogany neck with early ‘50s round carve. Rosewood fretboard attached with hot hide glue. 12" radius. 1 11/16" nut width. 24.75" scale length. True Historic pegged veneer headstock. Hand-filed rolled fingerboard binding.

Pickups/Hardware: 2 Custom Buckers. 2 Volume, 2 Tone and 3-way toggle switch. Nickel hardware. Vintage accurate plastic parts. ABR-1 bridge. Lightweight aluminum stopbar. Kluson “Deluxe” tuners.

Cosmetics: This guitar is in excellent condition. Tom Murphy is arguably the best of the best when it comes to aging guitars and this LP is a beautiful example of his art. Detailed and authentic-looking, the finish (which shows little actual playwear) could convince you that you were holding a real deal ’58 that has spent most of its life in a case under a bed. The color of the burst and the figuring of the maple on the top are stunning and, up close, the checking is delicate and precise.

Playability: While it looks vintage, this guitar plays like new, with all the benefits of a modern instrument: tight tuners, spot-on intonation from the lightweight bridge, and excellent playability thanks to low action on the straight, full-carve neck and full, even frets that show very little wear. There is no buzzing or choking of notes, and the tone from the custom-wound PAF style humbuckers is big and rich with soulful overtones.

Weight: 8 lbs, 15 oz.
