Description

This Gibson Hawk is in very good shape, the control panel shows the usual surface corrosion, the overall cosmetics are good. Featuring two channels that have dual inputs labeled "Guitar" and "Accordion." Both channels have Loudness, Bass and Treble controls. Channel 2 adds Reverberation, Depth, and Frequency controls for the Reverb and Trem.

Included is the original footswitch to control the effects. In addition there is also a Monitor output jack, and the power switch has 2 positions for polarity change.
This amp features the later 2x10 speaker configuration and the later 7591 output tubes. One of the CTS speakers has been re-coned, everything else appears original.
These 25 watt "Hawks" have a nice clean tone until you push the front end, then it gets "grittier".

The preamp section is very mild mannered. So the amp doesn't start to open up until about 7-8. But it will happily take anything that your favorite boost or overdrive or compression pedal will give it. This will give the front end any additional drive you may want. The accordion input is a bit hotter than guitar input.

It has 3 12AU7 peamp tubes. We found replacing the drive 12AU7 with a 12AX7 makes the preamp much hotter on 5 than it was on 10 with the 12AU7. The down side is that the tremolo gets very faint when you install the hotter drive tube. So if you don't care about the tremolo you can replace the 12AU7 with a 12AX7 to get the amp to roar. (We can install the 12AX7 if you like) If you want to keep the tremolo lively but still have maximum overdrive keep the 12AU7 and use your favorite boost or overdrive or compression pedal.
Everything else is fine.   The reverb is wet and surfy. The trem is deep and rich.
There are many artists ( B.B.King is said to be one of them) that have preferred these early Gibson amps over the more readily available Fenders and others. These "Hawks" are collectable and quite playable.

You don't see them very frequently, and they have a genuine "cool factor".
