Description

In 1934, two years after Martin introduced the iconic D-18, Gibson came out with the Jumbo featuring spruce top, mahogany back & side and round shoulders. In 1936 it became the Jumbo 35 and by 1942, with minor changes it evolved again into the J-45.

This 1952 example has a remarkable tone. A bit darker than a D-18 or a Jumbo 35 but every bit as resonant. The top binding and back binding were both professionally repaired in one spot. The belly bridge has been reglued. Not the prettiest glue job we've seen but certainly sound enough that we felt it wasn't worth regluing again. The tuners are currently single line white button Klusons.

Along with the original hard case and a "Book Of Hymns - Consolidated" (originally published 1894) This is a fine player and a fine piece of Gibson history!
