Gibson L-00 1932

Beginning in the late 20s, Gibson went through a series of flat top 'types' before settling on the basic L-00 that is fairly common in the vintage market today. From about 1931 through 1933, the L-00 saw a rapid number of iterations. This particular example is from that time period, and is quite rare when compared to the standard L-00.
It sports the spiffy black w/ white pick guard, which appeared on a number of 12-fret examples and even fewer 'raised fingerboard' examples, and then appeared again in about 1937. Our example is actually a 13-fret model, with a thin ebony fingerboard, like found on the Kel Kroydons, which makes it a fairly rare example of the L-00. The little Gibsons from this time period are among our favorites because they never disappoint in the tone department. The bracing is ultra light, so the top really resonates, making these examples responsive to the touch.
Also note that when Gibson added frets, they moved the bridge placement proportionally, so this bridge is a bit 'north' of a 12-fret, but still more 'south' (nearer the sweet spot) than the 14-fret examples. We feel that it is this combination of light bracing and bridge placement that makes the tone magic in these guitars.
This guitar is all original, including the brass tuners, nut and saddle, and the bridge retains its original profile, one that is unique to this time period of L-00 development. Amazingly, the guitar has never had its neck removed, since the paint seam all around is undisturbed! And the action is excellent, with appropriate saddle. The only repairs noted were three brace tips reglued, and evidence of one of the x-braces having been reglued at some point. Finish is excellent and original with only some pick rash and neck wear in the first position. No cracks.
The neck profile on Gibsons from this period of development are the best...a very comfortable 'C' profile, with a very modern feel. The action is set at 6/64" at the high E, and 7/64" at the low E, and the guitar plays smooth as silk.
Having owned many examples of L-00s over the years, they've become about our favorite guitar for pure Gibson tone, and this one is among the best we've played. The guitar produces a very clear and balanced tone all across its range and would make a fine finger picker and superb recording instrument. Comes with an older soft case.
