Near Mint condition 9.5 out of 10.0. This is an amazing find.

Beautiful sunburst finish, with highly flamed back and sides, in amazingly clean condition. Bound top and back. This is one of the cleanest Gibson Tweed L-5 style cases you will find…sell the guitar and keep the case for your L-5!

During WWII, metal was rationed and diverted to the construction of airplanes and military equipment. To compensate for the shortage, Gibson adapted by using the proven Martin model of wooden truss rods (magnet tested) and wooden tailpiece cross bars.

This rare model uses both of those.

Unique specifications include a solid mahogany tailpiece cross bar, thin pancake tuners, single slot steel tailpiece screws, and a non-adjustable wood truss rod – indicated by the lack of an adjustable truss rod and its accompanying cover and screws.

To compensate for the lack of an adjustable truss rod, Gibson used a large neck profile on these, which is comfortable and playable. The neck relief is almost perfectly flat as it should be. The lack of an adjustable truss rod has not been a detriment to this guitar.

Nut width 1.79 inches wide at the truss rod..makes this a 1 ¾ “ nut width.

1.02 neck thickness at the first fret,
1.06985 at the 3rd,
1.1155 at the 5th,
1.13 at the 7th,
1.1345 at the 9th fret. This is a very beefy thick neck, with a rounded C profile.

FON # 2668-46 inside F hole.

String tuner ferrules are small lipped tin style.

The tailpiece screws are steel. Steel screws are typically seen on 1930’s Gibsons like L-00’s, used on the truss rod covers.

Bound top and back with a beautiful highly flamed laminated maple back.

Pat 23567766 2132792 Tuners with brass shaft and thin pancake gears, brass Phillip’s head tuner screws.
Original strap button end-pin.
