The L7 was introduced by Gibson in 1932 and quickly became Gibson’s most popular professionally-sized archtop guitar. It was generally seen as a less-dressed up version of the L-5 model, more of a working guitarist’s archtop. It features the pre-war “fat script” Gibson logo with the fleur-de-lis headstock inlay as well as varied floral-patterned fret inlays and a non-cutaway dual F-hole fully hollow X-braced body design. This particular L7 was professionally restored by Otto D’Ambrosio of D’Ambrosio Guitars with two cracks in the top being repaired (one running on the treble hand side of the base of the neck and another just above the bottom F-hole). The maple back has a gorgeous flame to it with a beautiful vintage sunburst finish on the bound spruce top. The body is 17” wide by 3 ½” deep and the guitar weighs in at just about 6 lbs overall. It also features the 1930s Gibson triple-diamond tailpiece, open-back “butterbean” button tuning machines, and a 19 fret bound rosewood finger board. In addition to the repaired cracks there is general finish wear throughout the top and sides. The back and neck are in excellent shape with only light scratches on the back and a fingernail wear spot at the back of the neck around the 12th fret. The binding has shrunk and begun separating towards the bottom of the body (pictured). It has a nice yellow tint to it. It looks to have been re-fretted; the frets feel great and have lots of life left. Overall this is an excellent example of a classic guitar of that era of Gibson that would look great in any Gibson fanatic’s collection! Includes original hard shell case.
