Perfect chunky neck, feels fantastic in the hand. Minimal fret wear with great playability. This guitar has an interesting story behind it. The embossed number on the back of headstock is a US Military cataloging number from one of the military bands, and or USO bands. It was placed on the guitar at the Gibson factory. One can easily see that it is underneath the nitro clear coat. This number traces to a New Mexican base where a military band and/or USO band requisitioned an instrument order with Gibson directly. This was common practice back in the 40's & 50's. As with all items in the military, including it's people, a catalog, serial, requisition, administrative, or purchase order number would be assigned. Direct factory orders would receive such a designation, as did this guitar. Numbers on items had to match paperwork. This number is not an individual's personal identification number, such as a social security number or driver's license number, as is sometimes found on vintage instruments, owned by civilians.
