  • Description: 1970’s Les Paul Prototype Here is a truly unique prototype model constructed by the Gibson R&D department in the early 1970’s. Unique features include: Two piece highly figured bookmatched maple top. One piece mahogany body Three piece curly maple neck. Ebony fingerboard. No volute. Flowerpot in lay on back of headstock Old style “The Gibson” logo on headstock Two flat-faced humbucking pickups Special electronics and wiring with two 6 position rotary switches and three knobs. The guitar is in overall excellent condition. Minor clear coat worming on back. No appreciable dings or noticeable scratches. No checking. Small area of color irregularity on back of body is attributed to wood filler at time of manufacture and not touch up. No breaks or repairs. Correct era type frets may be refret as binding nibs are absent. One readable pot is dated 1975, either representing the year of manufacture, or representing replacement pot with actual date of guitar manufacture earlier in the 1970’s.
