Description

This guitar is super cool but has an extensive repair history. It was sold to us as having been factory refinished in the early 70's but that doesn't seem to tell the whole story. The finish on the back and the sides of the body looks original. The face of the headstock looks to have the original finish under an old layer of clear overspray. The back of the neck and back of the headstock were finished at two different times and the two different paints meet behind the nut. The merging paint makes it look like there is some sort of a volute but there is not. The top is also refinished and conceals so extensive routing. There was definitely some sort of middle pickup and some sort of trem at one point. Also, some mini toggles.. But the finish work on the top is extremely high quality and you can only barely see the evidence of former routes under bright light at certain angles. We don't see any evidence of neck or heel repairs but cannot be sure since the entire neck is painted. Obviously it was routed for humbuckers and it is loaded with patent number sticker t-tops. The guitar has a shallow neck angle typical of a 53, but we have seen this on at least one other '54. It plays well with the bridge all the way down. Pretty much all the parts are not original. When we got it the pots were a mess so we used some '55 pots we had. Definitely not a collector piece but super cool, and it plays / sounds great. Weighs 8 pounds, 13 ounces. It comes with the original case in the pics which has been painted black.
