Description: ~ON HOLD ~Greg's Guitars offers a vintage rare collectible solid body 1968 small headstock Gibson Les Paul Standard. How rare you ask? Well consider only 1224 were shipped by Gibson and divide that by just the U.S. population of 311,904,000 and that works pretty close to ONE guitar for every quarter of a million people and that is just in the U.S.!!! Now figure how many were totally destroyed or rendered unplayable for one reason or another and the list gets smaller.Perhaps 100 or so still exist... I think that qualifies this as a rare guitar. Now on to this beauty. As stated it is a vintage 1968 small headstock Les Paul Standard, the guitar was originally a goldtop and was sent to "The Apprentice shop" and given a going over by non other than Mike Lennon. The P 90 pickups were weak so the routes were filled with hard rock maple and then re routed for humbuckers without any damage or routing to the long tenon joint on the guitar. The finish was pretty ratty so Mike reapplied a "bullion gold" finish ( at the same time he was applying this finish to Tom Keifers guitar of Cinderella ). and the beefy chunk of a neck was given one of the most supple soft "V" profiles I have ever held in my hands. So faint and perfect is this neck that it is unnoticeable until you start to play her and just are blown away at the ease in which the hand glides over the back of the neck. The vintage Dimarzio humbuckers (Think Randy Rhodes and Tom Shulz) kick butt !!! The rhythm pickup was custom rewound by Seymour at his Santa Barbara facility by Seymour Duncan himself and the accurate (period correct ) wiring with replaced pots was done as well. She weighs in at 9.4lbs and sings like the fat lady at the end of the show. So if your looking for that ONE vintage Les Paul that is pretty rare, a killer player and will not break the bank or have mama give you your walking papers then this guitar may be for you. Not much more than a current "reissue" Les Paul cost wise ,but a hell of a lot more guitar !! No excuses, just the facts, that's Greg's Guitars.Rock on !!!
