Description

The Triumph represented the highest echelon of Gibson’s early 1970s bass offerings. It was a slightly redesigned version of the earlier Les Paul Recording Bass model. The most unique feature of the bass was the ability to select between High and Low Impedance which was especially great for use in the studio. The Low Impedance option also allowed for use of longer cables for playing on larger stages or studios. The Les Paul-style solid Honduran mahogany body is decorated with thin black binding and a dark brown natural finish. The neck is made from 3 pieces of laminated Mahogany and sports a rosewood finger board with 24 frets. It measures 1 ½” at the nut. The bass has a 30 ½” scale and weighs about 11 ½ lbs. The combination of the Tone Selector and Phase Control for the pickups allows for a wide variety of tonal options, from molasses-like bass sounds to clear-as-a-bell mids and bright, crunchy highs. Like many other ‘70s Gibsons, the frets are much flatter than modern Gibsons. They still have life left and the guitar does not seem to fret out while playing up and down the neck. This Triumph is a beast; it weighs in at about 11 lbs 10 ounces! You’ll definitely want to spring for a nice padded strap! The bass is in good shape for its age; there is some light checking in the top finish and some light scratches in the back of the body. The neck pickup surround has some light tarnish and two small pieces of the ends of the plastic control plate have broken off (it still stays firmly in place however). The Triumph is an interesting vintage bass with a multitude of uses for studio or stage! It’s chock full of ‘70s cool! Includes original hard shell case.
