Description: Here's the skinny boys and girls; Our best detective effort on behalf of this fine guitar reveals the following. This is a 1966 S.G®. Standard in transition. Holding onto the small guard but now with chrome instead of nickle hardware. All electronics and hardware are correct. Pots are dated late 1965 and all matching. Nothing appears to have been out of this guitars and all wiring is original. Patent number stickers on the base of the pickups, and they do sound GREAT!!! It has a slight "bruise" on the back of the headstock........ok a crack, but NOT a break, very slight and expertly repaired. It can be seen but not felt, smooth as butter. It does have the smaller '66 neck profile with some meat on it, however it tapers nicely and gets larger as you travel up the neck. The action is nice and low and the long Maestro Tremolo works well. It has had Grovers on it at one time, but the original tuners have been put back without any holes showing. Now, here's where the story gets a little weird kids. The fretboard has mother of pearl small block inlays as opposed to trapazoids? Our best guess: it was returned to Gibson for a new fretboard? We're not sure what other explanation there could be.Someone could've ordered it that way we suppose.........they also could have had a Time Machine™ and gone into the future in 1966. Space travel was BIG then!! The fretboard and binding are seamless. It doesn't feel like it's ever been on or off. The frets are original with nibs in tact. Your guess is as good as ours, beyond that, from the "Stump the experts" game show. The six digit serial #55_____ is very faint obviously from the headstock repair (minor) and finishing. It is there if you look for it though, and it's a '66 number! Bottom line, if you're looking for a bargain on a small guard standard with patent sticker pickups, then look no further. Not to mention you will have a truly "one of a kind" instrument. Comes with a hard case. Call us, lets talk!!!
