  • Description: 1974 Gibson USA Cherry SG Standard S# "2" - This serial number indicates a "factory second" instrument by Gibson's standards. If it was dubbed a "finish flaw" (which is most often the cause of such a factory 2nd distinction, especially by Gibson's meticulous standards), then they were being notoriously picky because check out the pictures... There's nothing of note cosmetics-wise aside from an average amount of wear for a guitar this old. By our inspection, such a flaw is undetectable at this point. The pickups sound great with the classic SG midrange snarl, plenty of treble bite and a mean lean bass. A thin neck (70's-style) and low set action make this axe play fast. The frets have a decent amount of playing wear but do not impair the feel or intonation. Original tuners have been replaced with more modern Grovers that hold tune better (additional holes drilled). Also, the pickups were traded out years ago for a pair of open coil vintage DiMarzios. We have not determined exact model or year of origin but they sound KILLER. 3-piece neck, solid mahogany body. Comes with original 70's hardshell case too! Bottom line on this one is you're buying a great vintage SG for less money than its worth because of its "second" distinction!
