  • Description: In 1934 Gibson introduced an auditorium size Archtop that was named Super 400. The Super 400 was made with an 18 inch wide body. In addition to master grade spruce and highly figured maple, this new model with fitted with a Y shaped tailpiece and triple bound f-holes. This beautiful 1940 Super 400 N continued the evolution of the Super 400 and was made with a Natural finish to highlight the beautiful woods from which it was made. This is a very important guitar for several reasons. It is the first year of the Super 400 N. Another reason is that in 1941, Gibson stopped production on this and many Gibson instruments until after World War II.

This special guitar has had one owner for the past 30 plus years and was played only in the comfort of the owner’s home. It is in very good condition. The guitar does have some markings and dings, but that would only be natural for an instrumentt that is 70 years old. Other than a professional re-fret and a missing pick guard, this guitar is in the original condition from when it was made. The top is carved of european spruce and the back is made from highly figured beautifully book-matched maple. It is absolutely stunning! The master grade woods that Gibson used to make this guitar have opened up over the years and the result, it produces a warm tone and a huge sound that could only come from a Gibson Super 400.
