Description:
The Gibson Super 400 is an archtop guitar that was released in 1934 and gained its name from the $400 it sold for. At the time of the Great Depression, this was a very expensive guitar. It is the largest guitar that the Gibson Guitar Corporation had produced.
This guitar is amazing, it features a beautiful Sunburst finish, true carved & graduated Spruce top with tone bars, and a highly flamed Maple back and sides, two Gibson humbuckers, split block inlays on the fingerboard, and split diamond inlay on the front of the headstock and a small single split diamond inlay on the back of the headstock. The top has seven-ply binding and the back has three-ply binding. The neck and F-holes are bound as well. The tuners are Kluson Seal-Fast, the best of the best. This guitar is completely original, from the headstock down to the tailpiece. It sounds absolutely fabulous. Pure jazz bliss. It plays wonderfully with a slim C-profile neck. The nut width is 1 11/16" and the scale length is 25 1/2".
This instrument was brought to us by the son of the original owner, it shows normal wear for an instrument of its age, there are a few very minor "marks" in the finish and there is a slight tarnishing on the pickup covers and tuning machines. The frets appear to have virtually no wear. This really is one of the nicest examples the the "Super" we've seen. If you have ever lusted for this unique part of guitar history, it's here !
