Description: In 1963 Gibson introduced the Firebird Guitar. Also born that year was the Thunderbird Bass. It was available in a one (Thunderbird II) or a two (Thunderbird IV) pickup versions. It has a 34” scale neck. The II has 2 knobs and the IV has 4 knobs. This one is a 1964 Thunderbird II. The bass had been played for almost 50 years but it still has that great TBird growl and still plays like butter. It’s one of those basses that when you play it acoustically, you can feel the resonance in your chest. Most importantly, this bass has no repaired/broken headstock or any other breaks. This great sounding bass was well loved and well played. The finish is worn but the vibe is not. The back of the neck also has several chips in the finish, but that doesn’t affect playability at all. The original owner must have worn a huge belt buckle because there is a 1” X 2” wear spot on the back of the bass. The original frets have plenty of play wear left in them and the original tuning machines and truss rod work as intended. The pick guard has one typical small crack by one of the screws. At one point in its life, three strap buttons were not apparently enough and a fourth was added. That hole has been filled. When measured at the output jack, that single growling pickup measures 8.61 k ohms. The electronics cavity is untouched and all original. The T-Bird bass will ship in a newer hard shell case and as always will be professionally packed with care.
