Description: This guitar was one of 242 Standard Trini Lopez guitars built in 1968. The Trini Lopez models were one of the Gibson's most successful artist guitars of their day. Trini is an awesome Latino guitarist and singer born in 1938 in Dallas, Texas. His signature guitars were produced from 1964 to 1971. Distinguishing features of the Trini Lopez Standard include a mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, 22 frets, double triangle inlays, a semi-hollow 16" thin line body with f holes, dual humbucker pickups, and a double cutaway maple body with cream binding. The six on a side tuning keys are an identifiable feature of Trini Lopez guitars. Like many instruments from the 1960s, this guitar has been modified by replacing the original trapeze tailpiece with a Bigsby tremelo. We speculate that this guitar originally had Kluson tuners that were upgraded to Schallers. This guitar is in above average condition with minimal small finish nicks and some mild weather checking. It is a great playing guitar thanks to its tapered neck. Asked in later years what he would change on his signature guitars Lopez said, "I would not change any features today that I originally designed for my Trini Lopez models." The hardshell case is not original.
