Description: Gibson UB-2 Model Banjo Ukulele, c. 1926, Kalamazoo, Michigan. This early style UB-2 was the first re-designed "Mastertone" era banjo-uke illustrated in Gibson's catalogs and likely the first one issued, followed shortly by the 6-inch rim UB-1 and the full resonator-and-flange UB-3 and UB-4. This UB-2 has the early-style brown mahogany finish with plain inlay; later models were upgraded to a sunburst finishes with more binding and diamond fingerboard inlay. This elegantly simple original version with an unbound neck and large dot inlay features an 8-inch head, closed back with a flat plate resonator, a maple neck and rim and rosewood fingerdoard. A single Gibson co-ordinator rod (a new device at the time) allows the neck angle to be adjusted. These are great-sounding banjo ukes as well as a neat Gibson collectible.Overall length is 21 1/2 in. (54.6 cm.), 8 in. (20.3 cm.) diameter head, and 3 1/8 in. (7.9 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 14 in. (356 mm.). Width of nut is 1 1/4 in. (32 mm.). Pretty clean overall; the only major flaw is some rather noticeable dings into the back of the neck (possibly from a neck-eating capo!) between the 3rd and 7th frets, not overly deep but definitely felt while playing. Newer bone nut, skin head and bridge, all else original. Plating on hoop is very clean still; hooks and nuts have some loss and light corrosion visible. Some scratches on the back but no major finish loss. A very good player with an excellent sound. Very Good + Condition.
