  • Description: Extremely rare Grammer guitar for sale, R.G®.and G®. Guitars. This Grammer guitar from the original R.G®. & G®. factory that was located in Nashville Tennessee during the mid 1960's fits the bill as we will see. 1 - Rarity: The first 70 Grammers (approximately) employed a solid mustache style bridge as well as an over exaggerated wider lower headstock wing on them, a bit more flanged and exaggerated they also had a less "physco hillbilly" pickguard. Sometime after the 20th guitar was assembled, the decision was made to redesign the bridge, pickguard, and headstock. The later models featured a crown style bridge. Billy thought The crown bridge completed and complimented the overall design and look of the guitar. ( I like the early one as well). The pickguard (s) changed somewhat to a more batwing appearance on both ends and the lower wings on the headstock were tapere more to save both materials and production time. ( I really like this one.) So as far as "rare" goes ,this is one of the Rarest R.G®. and G®. "Grammer" guitars ever produced as it is # 98 in production (1099 serial number) and possibly one of the last to employ these first appointments. To top that of it is only the second guitar in the first run that I have ever seen, and I have been " THE" Grammer guitar nut for years. 2 - Playability: no issues here, good tone, good wood, good looks,no buzzing, easy to fret. 3 - Desirability: True these do have a "cult" following and due to me they are now listed in the vintage guitar price guide, I sell everyone I get and have other dealers buying them from me, figure it out. 4 - Beauty: The pictures speak for themselves, Billy Grammer had his shop personnel use only select woods and great craftsmanship on his guitars and it shows. 5 - Originality and integrity,This is an original R.G®. and G®. "Grammer guitar from the original Nashville factory , through the years a few repairs and altercations have taken place, lets cover what I know and what I don't know about this particular Grammer guitar. A- The guitar is an original. The bridge, fretboard, pickguard are all original to this guitar. several braces were loose and are being re glued as I write this up. The guitar has binding along the neck, Most every Grammer that was made for retail consumption never had binding on the neck , Billy Grammer himself told me this, with the exception of a "Custom Order" , so this was either custom ordered with binding or when this guitar was possibly refretted the binding was added then. This is one area that we will never know for sure as all the R.G®. and G®. factory order information as well as every other record were all destroyed in a fire. The guitar has had a neck set and material was taken from the neck heel area at the body joint. The guitar retains its original finish but has been over sprayed very lightly over the entire guitar and buffed to a magnificent shine as you see now, with all checking still observable beneath. One of the rarest Grammer guitars I know of and a booming, great playing guitar with original hard case. Exceptionally expensive.
