Wurlitzer music store in Boston. JR traded his high school favorite Ludwig set in for this historical drum set. This set was used throughout Boston and the New England area from 1975-1978. When JR Got his break and joined Rufus and Chaka Khan in May of 1978 he moved from Boston to Los Angles. He immediately finished out the world tour with this drum set. He then went into the recording studio to record the first Rufus solo record "numbers" on ABC/Dunhill records. Then JR recorded two new records with Rufus and Chaka Khan, Camouflage and Masterjam on MCA records. The next record changed JR's life. Quincy Jones asked JR to record for the late great Michael Jackson. This record became one of the most famous records for both MJ and JR. The first song on "Off The Wall" JR recorded was "girlfriends" written by Paul McCartney. Then JR recorded "It's the Falling In Love". After JR nailed both songs, Quincy asked JR, "What are you doing Monday? Do you want to come in and record the rest of MJ's record?" Of course he said "yes"! All of this great history was recorded with this historic and great sounding Gretsch drum set. Included with this set is the snare drum JR used on MJ's greatest single, "Rock With You", a 1978 Valley snare drum.
