Description: This USA made Harmony H78 was built in the fall of 1964. The H78 is a double cutaway f-hole hollowbody archtop that weighs 7 pounds. This guitar has a attractive shaded cherry red finish with chrome hardware. The faux tortoise overlay on the headstock with matching pickguard, toggle switch cover and truss rod cover adds some pizazz. A raised metal Harmony logo completes the headstock. The bolt on neck has a 22 fret rosewood fretboard that is 1 11/16" at the nut and a scale length of 24 1/2". There are eight block pearloid inlays on the neck. The neck, top, sides and back are laminated maple. The top is ply bound and the back and neck are single bound. The depth of the body is 2 inches. The body is stamped in ink F-64 for the fall of 1964 along with made in USA inside the bass side soundhole. The treble side sound hole has the nine digit number 4402H72_ _. stamped. There are three DeArmond™ pickups dated Sept 4, 1964 on the backs. Each pickup has a on and off toggle switch for mixing and matching the pickups. The unique pickup tone of DeArmonds is somewhere between a single coil and a humbucker. Other features of the Harmony include a Bigsby vibrato tailpiece with patent No. D-169,120, Grover open back tuners, an adjustable rosewood bridge,a triple ply raised pickguard, and six tiny lucite knobs for volume and tone control of each pickup. The guitar is all original except possibly one of the lucite knobs that is nearly identical and the end pin.The guitar has a variety of scuffs and dings primarily of the sides. Dan Auerbach guitarist for the Black Keys played a Harmony H78. The Harmony plays great. It has a fast compact neck with smooth action and minimal fret wear. The combination of three toggle switches and three pickups with knobs for each along the Bigsby make this instrument good for a variety of musical styles. It has an awesome vintage vibe with lots of character for the price. It comes with a new hardshell case.
