Harptone guitars were built in NJ, USA by luthier Sam Koontz and were affiliated with the Standell company of California. These fantastic 12-string guitars were played by such artists as George Harrison, David Bowie, and Paul Simon. This particular instrument is identical to the guitar owned and played by George Harrison in every detail. In fact, the serial number is only 2 numbers after the guitar owned by George Harrison. Harrison's guitar was eventually sold at auction for $123,000 in 2005. George Harrison bought his guitar prior to recording the Beatles White Album. The guitar was owned and used by George for several years and also used by members of Badfinger on the sessions for George's All Things Must Pass LP set. Tom Evans at Madison Square Garden also used it during the Concert for Bangladesh charity shows. In 1974 George gave the guitar to Bob Purvis whose group George was producing. He played this guitar during sessions for the Splinter's debut LP. The original adjustable saddle was replaced by luthier John Carruthers of Venice, CA with a compensated solid bone saddle for perfect intonation (the original saddle is included). The bridge and pickguard were professionally re-glued by luthier John Zender of McCabe's Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, CA. The guitar plays and sounds amazing!! The action is ultra low and it plays effortlessly. Inlcuded with the sale are the original Harptone hardshell case (in excellent condition), original warranty card, original saddle with adjustable screws, all repair receipts, and a super rare guitar cover with gold Harptone logo. Harptone guitars rarely come up for sale and the few that we've seen are always compared to Harrison's guitar yet are slightly different in appointments or model #. This guitar is the next best thing to owning Harrison's actual Harptone and is an incredibly rare opportunity. Call 323-600-5050 for price, additional info, and more photos.
