The previous owner purchased it at a store specializing in gagaku instruments in Tokyo. The previous owner purchased it at a shop specializing in gagaku instruments in Tokyo. Used only a few times. It is a beautiful item with no damage.
The Hichiriki is a double reed wind instrument that plays the main melody in Gagaku, the Japanese court music. It is said to have come from China shortly before the Nara period (710-794). The body is made of bamboo. The inside of the windpipe is lacquered. The head, tail, and finger holes are reinforced with thin strips of rattan or birch bark. The length of a typical Hichiriki (= small Hichiriki) is about 18 cm. The reed is about 5.5 centimeters long and is about the same size as a bassoon.
